What a fantastic day it was. The Annual Meeting proved to be a memorable occasion filled with celebration, reflection, friendship, and compassion. Over 200 Brethren gathered at The Fed in Dunston, creating a vibrant atmosphere that was further enhanced by the presence of many distinguished guests from other Provinces, heads of Orders within Durham, and respected past rulers.

The meeting was conducted with the impeccable style and precision that has become a hallmark of our gatherings, under the direction of our Provincial D.C. Mike Davis and his dedicated team, ensuring everything proceeded with dignity and grace.

An important moment in the proceedings and also a very pleasing sight to see the Royal Ark Mariners Installed Commanders parade into the meeting who are likewise warmly welcomed.

It is a day of celebration and of course a very special time for many of Durham’s Mark Masons and almost certainly the highlight of the event, when they receive their Provincial Appointments and Promotions. Numerous Brethren were appointed, invested, and promoted - each deserving of the heartfelt congratulations for their achievements and dedication.

The Provincial Grand Master, David Hanson, delivered an inspiring address centered on the theme of friendship, describing it as the cornerstone that makes the Mark and our Province such a remarkable and special Order. He took time to express deep gratitude to the Secretarial team for the immense effort that went into organising such a polished and successful event, paying particular tribute to our now past Secretary, Allan Gurney. Despite his ongoing battle with cancer, Allan was able to attend, receiving a deeply moving and extended standing ovation from all present.

David Hanson also acknowledged the exceptional commitment shown by the Brethren in supporting the Durham 2029 M.B.F. Festival. Their tireless fundraising efforts continue to make a significant difference, and the occasion was marked by the presentation of several M.B.F. collarettes in recognition of these contributions. He also paid tribute to John Watts who was retiring from the post of Festival Chairman due to his promotion in the Craft to Provincial Grand Master. David announced that John would be succeeded by Michael Wilkinson, Assistant Prov.G.M. and he wished him every success.

David also mentioned the support of the St. John Ambulance Service who attend the meeting to attend to the needs of those present. He advised that there was a presentation of a donation prior to the meeting from the Durham Benevolent Fund. In addition, a new Blood Bike vehicle was handed over to the charity by the Assistant Grand Master on behalf of the M.B.F.

Following the formalities, a brief interlude allowed the Lodge room to be transformed into the dining room, giving everyone a moment to enjoy a refreshing drink and reconnect with friends. The day concluded with a sumptuous banquet, where the spirit of friendship and fraternity carried on well into the evening, leaving all who attended with lasting memories of a truly special gathering.
