St John Ambulance Cambridgeshire

Volunteers from St Ambulance, Cambridgeshire look forward to using the new Treatment Centre

The sun shone down with meridian splendour as we arrived at Huntingdon’s St John Ambulance headquarters for Cambridgeshire.

There, representatives and volunteers from St John Ambulance were joined by the Deputy Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, the High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire and the Dean of Peterborough Cathedral to be formally presented with the keys to the new Mobile Treatment Centre by Right Worshipful Brother Paul Anthony Norman, Provincial Grand Master of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of East Anglia.

The Treatment Centre had been delivered 6 weeks previously and in that short period had already been in service at 25 events within Cambridgeshire.
This is the second of three vehicles being presented in the Masonic Province of East Anglia, which comprises the geographical counties of Norfolk Suffolk and Cambridgeshire. Norfolk received theirs in May and the Provincial Grand Master and his team of Provincial Officers will head to Suffolk later this year to present the remaining vehicle.

The volunteers at St John Ambulance were delighted to be in receipt of the vehicle and can’t wait to get their turn at taking it out to one of the many events that they attend across the County.

After the presentation we were treated to early afternoon tea and sandwiches and it was a pleasure to meet and talk to the volunteers and hear what a difference a vehicle like this will make. Their enthusiasm for their duties as first aiders is quite enlivening.

Mark 150th Festival593

The 150th Mark Benevolent Fund Festival hosted by our splendid Mark Province of Lincolnshire came to a wonderful conclusion last Saturday 7th. July 2018. It was a great personal delight when the Grand Secretary R.W. Bro. Ryan Williams announced the total raised was a staggering £853,023. This is a wonderful achievement and I congratulate the Mark and Royal Ark Mariner brethren.

I am especially pleased as I was determined that no targets were to be set and I would trust the brethren of the Mark Province of Lincolnshire to support the Festival to the best of their ability. As I stated on Saturday you did not disappoint and I sincerely thank all who have given to the Festival in this most generous total raised. Lincolnshire can be truly proud.

Mark Benevolent Fund cheque presentation to QA urology 2

A BUMPER £33,000 was donated to Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust for special equipment for prostate cancer laser surgery — helping to save lives. The money, donated to the urology department at Queen Alexandra by the Mark Benevolent Fund, will modernise equipment which will help facilitate a quicker recovery time and leave patients only needing one operation in 10 years. The total £33,143 was raised by the Mark Benevolent Fund’s 40,000 members through various events. The fund has donated to hundreds of causes, including the earthquake in Nepal, and decided to offer the funds to the trust after deciding it was more than a worthy cause that would make a difference to lives.

John Bell, trustee, speaking at the cheque presentation, said: ‘Anything we can do to help provide the NHS with new equipment can only be a good thing both for the trust and the patients. ‘We do a lot of background enquiries before deciding who we are going to donate money to as to make sure it goes to the right kind of causes that will not lose the money and where it can be accounted for.
