Centenary Celebration for Pentangle Lodge No. 682

The Medway town of Rochester in Kent played host to the Pro Grand Master on Thursday 23 July when he visited Pentangle Lodge No. 682, to join the Brethren in celebrating the Lodge’s Centenary. This was once familiar territory when he was at boarding school here and M.W.Bro. Raymond J. Smith was pleased to share some of his memories of time spent in the town (which was once a City) during his opening remarks.

W.Bro. Michael Foreman, P.Prov.G.Stwd., Lodge Secretary, delivered an interesting precis of the Lodge History which was followed by an equally enthralling Oration by W.Bro. Graham Higgs, P.G.S.D., the Deputy Provincial Grand Chaplain.

The Pro Grand Master was delighted to present the Lodge with its MBF Grand Patron Gold Collarette, while the Provincial Grand Master was also pleased to present the Lodge with the Festival Bronze Award.

After the meeting the Brethren gathered in the dining room to settle down to a five course feast which echoed that which the Founders had enjoyed at the Consecration.

W.Bro. George Reynolds, P.G.S.D. – 100 years young – turns out for the centenary of the Armistice

WBroGeorgeReynolds

Last Sunday saw W.Bro. George Reynolds lay a wreath on behalf of the Mark Province of Monmouthshire at the cenotaph in Newport. W.Bro. George, formerly of the Royal Horse Artillery, the only WW2 veteran on parade and in his 101st year, stepped forward with great dignity and solemnity to pay his tribute to the fallen, assisted by W.Bro. Jonathan Roberts, Dep.G.D.C.

Such is the affection for W.Bro. George among the people of Newport and beyond that his presence at the cenotaph in Newport quickly drew applause when he arrived ahead of the 11 o’clock Act of Remembrance – a true celebrity!

Well done and thank you, George. Your fortitude and determination is a lesson and an encouragement to us all.
